I am confident should work just fine

Should be inter-operable, even with allowing latest designs of system databases to flow freely... I have 6.5.6, 7.0.2, 8.0.x, 8.5.x and 9.0.x Servers in our development domain and works just fine...

Obviously, you would want to due as much validation as you can before production if you can and get on that Business Partner to catch up to 9.0.x ASAP. :)

If you are running a release of Notes/Domino prior to 8.0, you should upgrade to at least Notes/Domino 8.0 before installing and upgrading to Notes/Domino 9.0. Upgrading from prior versions may work but is not tested or officially supported.

It should work

It should work, names.nsf and other system dbs are designed to be replicated even if the other replicas has a different design, what you need to look out for is the replication of the design it self a v7 might not have the capability to handle db replicas froma v9 server
